I am incoherent with rage.

Last night it was shocked disbelief and a vaguely sick feeling.

Today, I'm sick with rage. Worse, I am incoherent with it. I want to call the White House comments line that [livejournal.com profile] jonquil so kindly posted on her journal, but I can't come up with a single, intelligible thing to say that doesn't consist of "AAAAAAAAAGH YOU MISERABLE FUCKING CRIMINALS I WANT YOU OUT OF OFFICE AND I WANT YOU FINANCIALLY RUINED AND I WANT YOU OUT OF MY COUNTRY AND I WANT YOU DEAD DEAD DEAD".

I want to call and clog their phone lines but I cannot begin to figure out what to say that wouldn't make me sound like a reactionary idiot who can be easily written off. The problem is, with this administration, even the moderate, respected people with clout are being easily written off. So what good does my one call do?

Particularly when all I can think of to say is "YOU FUCKING CRIMINALS STOP POLLUTING MY COUNTRY, KILLING MY SOLDIERS, PENALIZING MY POOR PEOPLE, DESTROYING MY SCIENCE, REWARDING THE WEALTHY AND POWERFUL, SUBVERTING MY CONSTITUTION AND RUINING MY FREE PRESS. I WANT YOU OFF MY CONTINENT AND I WANT YOU TO NEVER COME BACK. I WANT YOU TO STOP BREATHING, STOP TALKING, STOP BREAKING THE LAW AND PRETENDING IT'S OKAY, AND STOP WASTING OUR MONEY WITH YOUR ON-AGAIN OFF-AGAIN EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE, YOU FILTHY MOTHERFUCKING SLEAZEBAGS."

Plus, I have cramps. Explains a bit, but - and I stress - only a bit.

Last night I heard – yet again – another GOP apologist insisting that the entire Department of Justice investigation is irrelevant and unnecessary “because there was no underlying crime.” Because, after all, “the U.S. Attorneys serve at the pleasure of the President.”

The suggestion they’re trying to make – en masse, no less – is that the act of firing and replacing a U.S. Attorney is Gonzales’ (and Bush’s) right. And that because it’s their right, no crime has taken place.

What they’re very carefully attempting to maneuver us away from is the truth: that an action that may be perfectly legal outside of any context can become a crime within another context.

For instance, it’s perfectly legal for me to take company records home with me to work on, so long as they aren’t protected by any federal laws (such as patient health records, SEC data, etc.). I can even "lose" them without automatically incurring criminal prosecution (although my employer would probably fire me twice). However, if my company is under investigation for criminal activity, and I "lose" the records – something that wouldn’t normally be a crime – I could in fact be prosecuted for obstruction of justice.

It's not illegal to wait in a car in a legal parking spot outside of a bank -- unless you're waiting for the bank robbers to come out with the loot so you can drive them away.

See, that’s how they’re trying to use their talking-point misdirection. The arguably legal act of firing politically neutral attorneys and replacing them with party loyalists becomes obstruction of justice because of the intent to influence federal prosecutions.

THAT’S the underlying crime. Which makes the investigations both relevant and necessary.

Now all these neocon apologists can shut the hell up and go back to whacking off to footage of IED explosions or something.

You are quite possibly the most supreme asshole in the history of our nation.

Until you can adequately explain how equal marriage rights for all adult citizens will actually harm the institution of marriage, shut the hell up and and actually work on fixing the economy, the federal and trade deficits, our languishing schools, the national nurse shortage, and FEMA. Oh, and stopping the activity you authorized that does more harm to the constitution, like eavesdropping and keeping copies of my phone records without court orders.

What was that? It's not possible? Yeah, I guess it is, for someone as monumentally, arrogantly, rebelliously incompetent as you.

Fuck you and your transparent pandering to an obnoxious, vocal minority. No, really, FUCK YOU.

For the love of God, just go on another month-and-a-half taxpayer-funded vacation and do nothing. It would be a decided improvement, and a welcome respite for the rest of us.

With extreme anger and resentment,
Jood
Taxpayer, Voter, Private Citizen whatever that means these days

I snagged it late in the afternoon on 12/22/05.

I'm off to phone interview a programmer. Still trying to figure out how to interview a programmer when I'm not a programmer myself. Should be interesting.
