Shoe update and an ambitious project
Sep. 28th, 2007 10:09 am1. So those pretty new shoes I wore for the first time yesterday? These? They're so slippery that I wiped out in the parking lot of Super H Mart yesterday after work. DID THE SPLITS with one leg sliding completely under the shopping cart and the other one scraping on the ground behind me. Skinned my knee through my jeans. (Thankfully I was wearing my nice new jeans, which were also unharmed.) Oddly, no ill effects from the sudden splits move. I guess I'm still v. bendy.
2. Bought two cases of fresh black figs, and I'm going to attempt the food project that's been my obsession for the last couple of weeks.
Caramelized Fig Sorbet, with fig/sherry/balsamic brittle (which is the natural by-product of caramelizing the figs). If I get ambitious, I might mix in a little finely diced, crisp-fried prosciutto to a small batch to see how it comes out. Seriously, this is The Recipe Idea That Ate My Brane.
3. So there was elk meat on Top Chef (cue "Dogs in Elk" memory for brief laugh), and it occurred to me that it might have made very nice carnitas. So I'm going to see what kind of game meat I can lay my hands on and try it out. Maybe something easy like buffalo to start with, and then eventually maybe ostrich. Does anybody know where I can get wild boar outside of the loop?
