Guess which cruise ship we're boarding in December?

Fire breaks out aboard cruise ship; one dead.

Ma informed me the cabins are actually removable modules, so they'll probably dry dock some time this summer and just pop out the damaged ones and pop in new cabins. Which is extremely neato.

We're betting it was a smoker. If he or she is responsible for the shock-death of that other passenger, I hope it haunts their nightmares forever.

I Can Do Science, Me: Phases Three and Four

...and we're done.

At 7:00 a.m. today, we had:
Ceramic:33.4 F
Glass:33.8 F
Plastic:33.8 F
Interesting. We're definitely approaching equilibrium. Another day or two and we might have it.

At 8:35 p.m. today, we had:
Ceramic:39.0 F
Glass:38.6 F
Plastic:38.8 F
Which means, I suppose, that the only things we've proven in this little experiment are that:

1. There's no telling what will happen in only 12 hours, as conductivity and insulation are major factors, as well as placement.

2. Our refrigerator is utterly fucked. Five degrees difference? Yikes. I mean, true, we don't get above 40 or anything, so the food is all okay, but we got dangerously close to freezing this morning, and that can't be good. Must check the thermostat.

3. I drank from all three when I removed them from the fridge tonight, and I think the ceramic actually felt a little colder against my lips than the other two, but the water in all three felt like it was the same temperature. It tasted like ass, though.

So that's that. Those who voted "They'll all be the same temperature" got it right in the long term, but based on the initial experiment (overnight), only Shan nailed it.

Wher!

ALL SHALL LOVE ME AND DESPAIR

For I have made cultured butter. From scratch. Lovely, creamy, rich, slightly salted, cultured butter. European style Plugra. ME. I have done this. Kneel before Zod Jood. MUAHahahahahaha.

Our folks are coming over for dinner tomorrow so we can christen the dining room table, so I'll be baking bread too, as well as roasted brussels sprouts with pine nuts & balsamic vinaigrette, boeuf bourguignon (using an entire bottle of Rosemount's Shiraz) with baby yukon gold potatoes, bacon, leeks, and other goodies, and bruschetta for starters. And more of the Shiraz to drink. And a small, light, green salad.

There will be a crackling fire in the fireplace, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Deja Vu" on the stereo, and a freshly scrubbed stove and bathroom.

I've been planning for weeks to take the day off tomorrow to enjoy the preparation.

There are fresh flowers on the table, a new silk table runner and a lovely glass water pitcher I got for cheap at HomeGoods, and we're finally going to take the packing plastic wrap off the seat covers.

This is a fucking BEAUTIFUL house we have. I love it to bits. I can hardly wait to have enough money to finish the living room so we can finally entertain more than two guests at a time.
