OMG I FINALLY GET IT

I always thought the "under" people simply didn't understand the basic concept of TP.  "Over" is how it should be, so the first sheet is easy to find and the wad you need is easy to tear off, right?

Then I thought about Emma's brief dabbling in TP unrolling, and "under" now makes perfect sense. Even the most obsessive cat can't easily unspool an entire roll when it's facing the other direction.

Still salivating over this

Catalog page found whilst cleaning (I really know how to spend a vacation day!), contains dress I still want but have nowhere to wear:

And they have it in my size.  ::sigh::

Bear

He was a weird, wonderful cat with huge paws, a million toes, a long memory, an unnerving habit of looking you straight in the eyes, and no discernible capacity for anger.

He used to put his toys back when he was done playing with them.  He comforted me when Rick and I broke up and he protected me from the usurper (sitting between us, sitting on Rick's feet) when we got back together.  He eventually relented and decided he liked Uncle Dad after all -- especially his stinky shoes.

We've had a few extra years of bonus time since his first big illness, and what we got back from the vet then was a new kitty: snuggly, affectionate, demonstrative and communicative.  His last few years were a gift, and I'll be grateful to him forever for that time.

We don't know for sure how old he was, but he was probably around 18.  He had a good, long run with folks who loved him.

He went gently, with his head on my arm, and gave a lovely (and uncharacteristic) little warble/purr as he drifted away.

Dear clothing makers,

What I really want is a shirt that has some decorations on it, but I just can't find what I'm looking for.

I want something specific.  I want it to look like I have some filigree bolt mountings riveted to my chest, but they should be kind of sparkly.  And I want them connected to each other with a few strands of sparkly chain-like stuff, to accentuate the shape of nothing in particular.  It shouldn't accent my shoulders or my boobies, my cleavage or even the neckline.  Just kind of string up some stuff randomly.  It'll look fine.  Ideally I'd like it to contrast against a cheap jersey t-shirt in aqua, or to just disappear entirely against black.

I'd really like it if I could look like I'd just ran into a glue-covered findings cart.

Oh, thanks, that's terrific. Just what I had in mind.  But I think I'll wait until it goes on sale.

Backstory time!

On my way home yesterday, I was passed by three aggressive looking vehicles, bunched tight together in the far-left lane of the Tri-State northbound.  They moved together as a convoy as they sped northward.
  • 1st car: Secretary of State Police
  • 2nd car: Customs and Border Police
  • 3rd car:  Customs and Border Police SUV
OOH!  Couldn't find a news item.  My first thought was maybe a bust on a place illegally importing impostor designer merchandise, but it looks like the SoS police manage vehicle theft investigations.

Any thoughts on what they could have been doing?

ETA: Oh, hey, there's a Customs and Border Police branch in Waukegan, that covers the airport there.  Hmmm.

Bryan Lambert FTW (again)

...fans of the cancelled FlashForward are doing that thing that fans do, protesting the cancellation by being huge nerds. Their plans? To stage flash-mob-style "blackouts" like the one that opened (and, I'm told, that closed) the show. I don't think that'll work. If I see a bunch of nerds lying unconscious on the pavement, I don't think "Hey, bring FlashForward back", I think "Man, that Comicon walkathon was a lousy idea."

OMG RAMPS!!

If anybody is interested in acquiring some while they're still available, the best place around just had a huge price drop yesterday.

Clicky on piccy for the tasty.

I got mine last night and they are utterly gorgeous.  Many of them will be grilled and tossed with pasta tonight.  YUMYUMYUM

ETA: Sauteed with a little Irish back bacon, a splash of reduced riesling and tossed with lemon zest, fresh-picked chives and shaved parmaggiano.

MARU!

If you love Maru and want a book of utterly gorgeous photos, souvenir cards, stickers & decals and a DVD of his most adorable videos, you need to buy this immediately.  I am tickled beyond reason to have a way to compensate mugumogu for her tireless efforts to share with us the handsome, endlessly entertaining cat she was lucky enough to acquire.

I'm not sure this came out the way they'd intended.

This piece of jewelry confounds me completely.
